S06 EP06: Caring for Yourself

In episode six of the Masterclass, Rianka and Katie share with listeners best practices in caring for themselves during this reflection period of DEI work and highlighting the importance of mental health awareness through practicing grace and rest.

Recognizing that each of us has the ability to be either the recipient or pursuer of microaggression is an important step in reigning how you show up for others and in alignment with your own values.

The pair consider what being an agent of change looks like outside of the workplace. Katie reflects that these important system shifters are often unrecognizable figures, even though we expect them to be easily identifiable from the onset.

Whatever your evolving role may be, giving yourself grace during the pandemic, through the climate crisis, and among this racial reckoning and more can bring a lot of trauma to the surface.

Rianka and Katie share why it's not a badge of honor to push through periods of high stress in order to prove our worth and how they work deliberately to care for themselves through rest, therapy and healthy communication within their communities who can help share the weight of the work.

What you’ll learn:

  • What being an agent of change looks like

  • Why you can’t pour from an empty cup with DEI work

  • How to set boundaries and know when it's time to rest
